Kids and Teens can also benefit from practicing yoga! Classes are designed to be fun, engaging and appropriate for each age group’s developmental stage. A few ways yoga can help kids and teens are to:
- Develop fitness and coordination
- Assist with athletic skills if involved with sports
- Sharpen concentration for better studying
- Instill a positive attitude toward life
- Learn tools to help manage stress and difficult emotions
- Have fun with friends
Yoga for Little Kids: Ages 4 to 7
In these classes, yoga is interwoven with stories, songs and movement play. Young kids will become lions, butterflies and cobras as they learn simple yoga postures and relaxation techniques. Lots of fun!
Note: There is no class on May 19 (Victoria Day) or Oct 7 (Thanksgiving long weekend)
Yoga for Kids: Ages 8 to 11
Kids learn yoga postures, breathing and relaxation as well as have fun playing yoga games with their friends. Classes take place after school on Wednesdays.
Note: There is no class on March 14 (March Break) or Oct 31 (Halloween)
Yoga and Meditation for Teens: Ages 14 – 16
This course is open to teens and beginners who already practice yoga. Focus is on learning how to use yoga practice for physical and mental well-being. This course will teach basic yoga postures, breathing exercises, relaxation and simple meditation practice. Teens are encouraged to practice at home and use yoga techniques to stay calm and focused. During the course we will discuss yogic perspective on mental health and issues such as anxiety, addiction, body image and relationships.
