Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch, Woodbourne, NY seeks Permaculture/gardening/farming/homesteading position for single person or a couple/team to live on-site to steward holistic over-all site design in collaboration with Director and Staff, and to steward numerous earth care initiatives and projects, which may include but are not limited to: expansion and maintenance of organic no-till garden and greenhouse, further development of perennial food forest and nut grove plantings, development of renewable and sustainable energy systems (i.e. wind/solar power, coppice woodlot), water catchment and cycling, and development and supervision of internship/educational programming.

The suitable team possesses a passion for and sincere aspiration to live a Yogic lifestyle and to live in a service-based intentional community focused on sharing classical teachings of Yoga and Vedanta Philosophy. Yogic lifestyle and community participation includes following a yogic vegetarian diet (no caffeine, garlic/onions, mushrooms, alcohol or drugs), maintaining a regular personal yoga asana, meditation, and attending satsang twice daily. Experience applying permaculture techniques and principles to caring for perennial plantings or no-till organic gardening/farming in the Northeast is a plus.  

The position is Full-Time, April-October in exchange for Accommodations, meals, yoga asana classes, meditation and special workshops. Opportunities to generate additional income from small to medium scale regenerative land-based enterprises or value-added processing can be discussed.

The ashram site is located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in Woodbourne, NY. It includes 77 acres of hilly meadow and woodland and features nature trails, organic annual garden, several small ponds, numerous perennial plantings, and a wood-burning Russian sauna. It is open year-round as a spiritual semi-monastic yoga retreat center and offers yoga asana classes, meditation and philosophy courses, and other special health and wellness programs. It was founded in 1974 by Sri Swami Vishnudevananda and is a part of the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers, one of the oldest and largest yoga organizations in the West.
