YOGA AS A DIRECT EXPERIENCE
Swami Vishnudevananda was the first yoga master in the West to develop a
training programme for yoga teachers. In 1969, he taught the first Sivananda
Yoga Teachers’ Training Course (TTC) in Canada, introducing in the West the
courses of the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy of the Sivananda Ashram in
Rishikesh, India.
The goal of this programme is to train inspiring and qualified yoga teachers
who are able to draw on their own practice and self-discipline in imparting the
yoga experience to others.
Swami Vishnudevananda retained the traditional Gurukula system for the course,
where teacher and students live together in an Ashram (centre for yoga and
meditation). The direct contact with experienced teachers becomes a part of the
daily life of the student during the course.
Students expand both physically and mentally during this comprehensive yoga
experience, and can later convey this experience to their own students.
In order to create the ideal atmosphere for learning, the teachers’ training course is
structured as an immersion programme held in an Ashram.
The yoga teachers’ training course is taught by Yoga Acharyas, who were
appointed by Swami Vishnudevananda and as such are the initiated successors
of Swami Sivananda.
For lectures by English-speaking instructors: Simultaneous translation into
German and on demand French, Spanish, Italian etc., using a modern wireless
translation system and headphones.
After successful completion of the training course, the participants receive the
internationally recognised certificate of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres.
Over
1,000 graduates each year.
In cooperation with the Open International University: With
the Sivananda Yoga Teachers' Training Courses you can earn credits towards
Bachelor, Master and PhD programmes in philosophy (spiritual counselling)
and interfaith studies.
