A truly unique camp uniting the summer camp experience with the practice of Yoga.
These programs are aimed specifically for children ages 7 - 12.
Established in 1972 by Swami Vishnu-devananda, the Children Camp combines activities of
outdoor adventure, creativity, discovery and co-operation.
The children also learn and evolve though the practice of Swami Vishnu-devananda's five principles of Yoga:
- Proper Exercice
- Proper Breathing
- Proper Relaxation
- Proper Diet
- Positive Thinking and Meditation
Daily Yoga and breathing exercises combined with the practice of meditation keep the body
healthy, flexible and the mind focused.
Satsang just for kids, is an experience of joy
created by the stillness of meditation, followed by singing and inspiring stories.
The children also learn the value of Karma Yoga (service) as they help to maintain
their cabins and activity areas.
There is plenty of time for swimming, fun and games, all with the same goal of
fostering the qualities of co-operation, respect and friendship. Special activities outside
the Yoga Camp include canoeing, hiking, overnight camping and vegetarian cookouts
As children come from all over the world, with a variety of cultural backgrounds, they learn
to appreciate and respect people of all religions while practicing Yoga.
The ashram is located one hour north of Montreal amidst 250 forested acres of the
Laurentian mountains.Beautiful views, tranquil gardens and woodland paths create an ideal
setting for the practice of Yoga.
The Children's Camp facilities include its own office and kitchen, dining area, 12 simple
cabins for dormitory accommodation and 3 large covered tents for activities, Asana and
Meditation hall for kids, sick room, first aid room, swimming pool, basketball area,
volleyball area.
The ashram is smoke, drug and alcohol free.
Caring men and woman come from all over the world to be counsellors.
Most have completed the Sivananda Yoga Teachers Training Course and all are volunteering to share their time, energy and
yogic lifestyle with the children.
Prepared with love and care according to yogic dietary principles, three lacto-vegetarian
meals are served daily. Special attention is placed on meeting childrens nutritional needs,
as well as providing a diet conducive to a calm mind.
The children sleep in cabins divided according to age and sex into small groups
of 4 - 5 kids with a counselor. Set amidst the forests and fields of the Sivananda
Yoga Camp, the children have supervised use of the Ashram swimming pool and the
surrounding 250 acres of natural beauty.
