Ayurveda– the essential guide to healthy living

Ayurveda is the ancient medical system of India. It is a holistic approach to physical and mental health, proclaiming that our wellbeing is mainly determined by our lifestyle and ability to live in tune with nature.  This course provides an introduction to the ayurvedic principles of health care and a balanced life style.

Lecture topics

  • Introduction into the ayurvedic types of constitution: Vata, Pitta, Kapha
  • Dinacharya: daily and seasonal health regimen
  • Prana, Tejas, Ojas: how to balance the subtle energy systems of body and mind
  • How to get a good night’s sleep: ayurvedic and yogic remedies for insomnia
  • Ayurvedic skin care and simple home remedies

Every day at 12.30 h there will be a 2 hour lecture on the above topics. The rest of the day follows the yoga vacation daily schedule.

This course will not deal with the subject of ayurvedic nutrition.

How Yoga works – the scientific facts

As yoga becomes more popular, scientists are starting to prove what yogis have known for millennia: Yoga is a complete system for physical and mental health. In this 5- day certificate course we look at how Yoga works by combining scientific findings with the description of yogic effects in the classical yogic scriptures. You will get a detailed overview on the many diseases, conditions and physiological functions on which yoga has a positive effect and learn how the scientific process works. The topics of the course are applied in the daily asana and pranayama workshops.

  • Understanding common diseases and health conditions
  • The effects of Yoga on Health and Disease (heart disease, diabetes, stress, chronic pain, back pain, mental health, cancer, brain remodeling, longevity, and much more) 
  • Using this knowledge for your personal yoga practice and as a Yoga teacher
  • Merging yogic understanding with western scientific methods
  • Understanding scientific studies: physiological effects of Yoga (asanas, pranayama, meditation, relaxation and yogic diet)

Course teacher: Chandrika is a medical doctor and a Sivananda Yoga Teacher. She teaches anatomy and physiology in the Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Training Courses in Europe and has a keen interest in scientific research on Yoga.

Cutting-edge clinical research confirms what yogis have known for thousands of years: yoga practice can help to regulate your nervous system, integrate past traumas held in the body, and allow you to regain a peaceful sense of wholeness.

In this course you will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other trauma and anxiety-related physical and mental health issues.
  • Understand the impact of trauma and anxiety on the nervous system.
  • Discover what clinical research has revealed as “best practices” for addressing trauma and anxiety.
  • Learn to skillfully choose and introduce evidence-based practices for both trauma and anxiety-related symptoms in a variety of populations, including those suffering trauma from accidents; physical, emotional, or sexual abuse; natural disasters; and individuals with general anxiety.

Peace at home is crucial – and attainable. We can create more peaceful environments at home by gaining a deeper understanding of the qualities of space itself.  Ancient Indian teachings describe how to reach maximum tranquility in the home through proper design and construction.  This subject is called Vaastu Shastra or Vaastuvidya.

This interactive four-day workshop will incorporate hands-on practice, multimedia, and lecture to teach you how to design a house with healing properties or make an existing home more harmonious.

Over the course of four days, you will explore

  • Cosmology of space and implications for you and your home. Topics will include, time, space, rhythm, and form.
  • The impact of energy fields and energy grids on a home.
  • How to incorporate a spatial grid into the design of your house
  • The basics of creating floor plans for a healing house.
  • Design samples and strategies for enhancing your existing house.

Olga Mandodari Sokolova, Ph.D., a Certified Vaastu Shastra consultant, studied at the International Institute of Mayonic Science & Technology in Chennai, India, under Dr. V. Sthapati Ganapati. Dr. Ganapati was an internationally renowned architect from South India who applied Vaastu principles to his architectural designs. Mrs. Sokolova earned her M.S. in Civil Engineering from the Architectural University of St. Petersburg, Russia.
