The four-week intensive course covers all aspects of yoga in theory and practice. The course is a profound personal experience, based on the ancient teaching system in which the student’s daily life is fully integrated into the yoga training. Students strengthen their own personal yoga practice through self-discipline and exposure to the essence of yoga psychology and philosophy.

Among the many benefits students report are increased strength and flexibility, greater spiritual awareness, improved power of concentration, enhanced self-esteem and a new sense of self-discipline. The course is based on the principle of the synthesis of yoga as taught by Swami Sivananda. As such the practice of Hindu devotional rituals are also part of the daily programme. Successful graduates will receive a certificate from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre recognised by theYoga Alliance in the USA and Canada.

Daily Schedule

Attendance at all activities is mandatory. Changes in the programme may occur from time to time. Each Friday free time is given for personal activities and study. On this day students are required to attend morning and evening satsangs as well as to complete their karma yoga.

To maintain the purity and spiritual atmosphere of the Ashram, attendance at all satsangs and classes is mandatory. No meat, fish, fowl, eggs, garlic, onions, narcotics, alcohol or cigarettes.

Please complete an official registration form and return it (fax or email) with a deposit of the equivalent of 300 euros non-refundable (for further payment details please contact the Rome Centre) and a passport size photo. We will send you a receipt and confirmation of your reservation. Please remember to sign the form agreeing to the rules and regulations of the Course. The deposit (non-refundable) will secure a place (subject to availability). Full payment is required one month before the course starts.

Course Payment and Fees

The rooms comprise up to four beds in one room with attached or shared bathroom. There is a beautiful outdoor swimming pool and plenty of areas both inside and outside for quiet study. Please note that all course fees are in Euros. The fees include all tuition, accommodation, uniform (two pairs of trousers and two t-shirts), manual and meals. They do not include transport to and from the ashram.

All fees are non-refundable. A student can transfer from one course before the start of that course, to attend another, once only. After this time fees are forfeited.

What to bring

Required Course Books : The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga by Swami Vishnudevananda, and the Bhagavad Gita with commentary by Swami Sivananda
Recommended: The Sivananda companion to Yoga by the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre.

It can be warm/hot during the day and cooler at night. You will be given two pairs of white yoga trousers and two yellow t-shirts to wear to be worn at most of the classes. In addition you will need light cotton clothing for yoga classes, comfortable easy clothing for outside excursions, indoor slipper-type shoes, walking shoes, nightwear, toiletries and personal items, towel, swimming costume, yoga mat, cushion, shawl for meditation, a waterproof jacket and sweater, pens, notebooks for notetaking, alarm clock, and flashlight. Camping - in addition to the above please bring bedding and tent. No camping equipment whatsoever is provided.

Admission requirements

The course is an intensive four-week training and requires a high degree of commitment and an open mind to new teachings and experiences. Whilst prior experience in the practice of yoga and meditation is not a requirement, a sincere desire for knowledge and commitment to personal growth is needed. We recommend that before enrolling for the course, you familiarise yourself with our teachings by attending classes and courses at one of our Ashrams or Centres.

SantaMaria Agriturismo is a beautiful famhouse converted into a hotel set amongst rolling acres of organically farmed land. Olive groves and vines as well as oak and juniper forests adorn the Umbria/Tuscany landscape. The Faena Stream runs through the property and the hills are dotted with picturesque villages dating from medieval times. The location is 160 kilometres (2-hour direct train) from Rome, 160 kilometres from Florence, 30 kilometres from Perugia, 39 kilometres from Orvieto, and 50 kilometres from Assisi.

Your Arrival

The inauguration ceremony for the Course will take place on Sunday September 6, 2009. To allow time to settle in, please arrive on Saturday September 5, 2009, during the day if possible. If you are camping please do not arrive late as you will find it difficult to set up your tent. The course will end at on Sunday October 5, 2009. How to get there

By car:
South - On Highway A1, exit Orte following signs to Terni. After about 20 km exit direction Perugia-Cesena. Then take Motorway E45 exit to Marsciano-Collepepe.
North - On Highway A1, exit Valdichiana, then follow direction Perugia. Go straight without entering Perugia and take Motorway E45 Rome-Terni, exit to Marsciano-Collepepe.
N&S At exit Marsciano-Collepepe follow direction to Marsciano. In the centre of the city follow State Road SS. 317 direction Orvieto-San Venanzo. After 9 km. at km. 25,5th of the state road "SS. 317", Agriturismo Santa Maria is on the left.
By Air:
Perugia (Sant'Egidio Regional Airport) or Rome (Fiumicino)International Airport. From Rome Airport  take the bus line to reach Rome Termini Railway Station.
By Train:
The closest stations are Terni and Perugia and from there buses are available. From Rome Railway Station Roma Termini, take the train to go to Perugia P.S. Giovanni. There you change train for Marsciano. In Marsciano near the station take the bus to go to S. Venanzo. Marsciano's main square (Karl Marx Square) has an Information Bureau.
Shuttle Bus to the Course:
There will be a shuttle bus that will leave the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Rome at via Oreste Tommasini 7 Rome, 00162 Italy Tel (+39) 06 45496529 Mobile (+39) 3474261345 on Saturday 5 September at 6pm (18.00h) sharp. It takes approximately two hours to arrive at the Course location. The cost of the bus is €40 (euros) and must be booked and paid for in advance by September 1 2009. We regret we are unable to make refunds on this service. Students are advised to arrive at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Rome by 5.30pm (17.30h) at the latest. Reservations and payment for the bus are to be made by credit card at our HQ in Canada or bank transfer. Please see above on how to make payments.
