By Air
There are no international flights to Madurai airport. Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore are the nearest international airports which operate domestic flights on to Madurai airport. You can also fly into Thiruvananthapuram international airport and then connect to Madurai by train.
By Train
Madurai is linked to all major cities in India by rail. Check with the South Indian railways. From Madurai railway station take a taxi, rickshaw or bus to the ashram (approximately 20 kms).
You are advised to book rail tickets as soon as possible. Trains are often fully booked in high season (December and January) due to local festivals, so you may need to allow for this when planning your time of travel.
Train e-tickets can be booked up to three months in advance via the internet. Train information can be obtained via www.indianrail.gov.in. Limited seats in higher classes are available for credit card bookings via www.irctc.co.in. For reserved tourist quota seats (in the case of no other class tickets being available) you will need to visit the railway reservations office at a city train station with your passport, and proof of foreign currency exchange - either ATM withdrawal slips, or traveller's cheque or foreign currency exchange documentation.
Taxi/Rickshaw
Agree the taxi/rickshaw price for the journey to the Ashram, before leaving the station or airport. The fare from the airport should be approximately Rs 600, and around Rs 350 from railway station or city centre.
The ashram can be reached from Madurai city along the New Natham Road until reaching the small junction - Pavanna Vilakku (about 22 km). When travelling along the New Natham Road the ashram is after Kanjirampettoi and Kadavoor villages.
Look for Hawa Valley resort, easily spotted along New Natham road, about 20 km from Madurai, and 2 km further is the Pavanna Vilakku junction. From here (there is an ashram sign board) take a 5 minute walk to the left, along the local sand road to the ashram gate.
Bus Service
Local buses from the Periyar bus station (1 km from Madurai railway station) that pass Pavanna Vilakku Junction are: 23P, 23T, 23Z, 62A
Look out for the ashram sign board at the Pavanna Vilakku junction, 2 km past Hawa Valley resort. From the Ashram sign board at this junction, on the left of New Natham Road it is a 5 minute walk to the ashram gate. The journey from Madurai city to the ashram by rickshaw or bus takes around 45 minutes.
