YOGA ASANAS – yoga postures
Yoga asanas are postures that rejuvenate the body and promote a state of physical and mental wellbeing. The practise of asanas is accompanied by conscious breathing. Although the postures are performed by the physical body which is strengthened and revitalised through the practise, asanas also have profound positive effects on the mind.
They can be practised regardless of age.

Asanas make one firm, free from disease, and light of limb.

Getting started
For the beginner, we recommend following Yoga 1, 2, and 3 which will take you from the beginner level to the intermediate level.

Each class of the course lasts for 90 minutes and includes a short theoretical explanation on the five principles of yoga and on a relaxed yoga practice. We recommend following Yoga 1, 2, and 3 consecutively.

Level 1 - Beginner
This is the best way to start learning and practising yoga postures (asanas) and is suitable for complete beginners. You will gradually work on developing strength, flexibility, good breathing, concentration and relaxation. The course includes an introduction to yogic diet and its health benefits. Feelings of calm and well-being can be experienced after the first class. Recommended book: The New Book of Yoga, Sivananda Yoga Centres.

Level 1 Weekend Intensive

This weekend intensive provides a complete experience of the yoga lifestyle and creates a basis for your continued home practice. Nutritious vegetarian meals, nature walks and workshops on yoga and meditation make this a mini retreat in the heart of London.

Level 2 - Beginner/Intermediate
This course focuses on further practice of the basic postures, simple variations and preparations for the practice of the headstand. You will work on deepening the breath through further practice of breathing exercises and learn a simple meditation technique (tratak) to still the mind. Recommended books: The New Book of Yoga, Sivananda Yoga Centres and the Sivananda Yoga@home cd for individual practice at home.

Level 3 - Intermediate
During this course, you can take your practice to the next level by learning classical variations of the 12 basic postures and by individual guidance in the headstand. The theoretical explanation includes a study of the 3 levels of relaxation and an introduction into the mental benefits of the practice of positive thinking.

Level 4 - Intermediate/Advanced
Once you have mastered the headstand, you can join Yoga 4 course which includes more advanced asana variations, new breathing techniques and longer holding of the postures. The physical and mental benefits of fasting will be studied and the theory includes an introduction to Raja Yoga.
