International Yoga Day - June 21st
International Yoga Day - June 21st
The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres celebrate
the 1st United Nations International Yoga Day

‘Health is wealth, peace of mind is happiness. Yoga shows the way.’ Swami Vishnudevananda

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres, in collaboration with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are honored to celebrate the first ever International Yoga Day on June 21st, 2015 in a festive boat on the Thames.

The heart of the celebration will take place in London. We have organised a festive boat for 300 guests on the Thames to mark this occasion and a public yoga class in Jubilee Gardens at the London Eye.

‘Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, harmony between man and nature, a holistic approach to health and well being,’ says Prime Minister Modi.

In the same spirit, the International Sivananda centres have been teaching yoga as a life style for the last 60 years in 50 different centres and Ashrams worldwide.

This is the first time that such an initiative has been proposed by the UN. The resolution was adopted under the agenda of 'Global Health and Foreign Policy'.

Swami Vishnudevananda, the founder of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres, was a pioneer in using yoga as a tool for individual and world peace.

Senior Acharyas of the International Sivananda Yoga Organisation will be leading the event. A special guest, Sri Venugopal Goswami from Vrindavan, India, will be giving a nada yoga concert on the boat.

This celebration is to promote the true spirit of yoga. Yoga does not only bring individual health and well being, it reconnects us with our true self. It carries a powerful message of unity and peace. It offers clear and practical solutions to help overcome the consciousness crisis the world is going through.
