Interfaith Peace Weekend
Featuring Brother Rolph Fernandes and Tulku Karma Rinpoche
Saturday and Sunday, October 25-26, 2008

Rolph Fernandes, a former Franciscan Monk, has been a close friend of our organization for many years. Initiated into the First Order of Saint Francis over forty years ago, Brother Rolph has spent his life creating dialogue between peoples of different faiths so as to bring God's children together in unity. He was nominated as the Inter-Faith rep for the Franciscans and that was his main ministry for the last 15 years while he lived in the monastery.

Rolph had been to India on two occasions and lived for one year at the ashram of Fr. Bede Griffiths. He has attended many international conferences in Rome, Paris, Australia and  Sarajevo.

Rolph works in Montreal, offering his services in an aids clinic, accompanying people with meditation and also sharing his experience of Franciscan spirituality and its implications for this changing world.

Here, Brother Rolph will show us the parallels between the Christian Gospel and Yogic texts, such as the Bhagavad Gita.  We will discover the underlying message of Yoga as it was taught by Christ and Saint Francis, and will come to see clearly that Yoga, or union with God, represents the greatest goal of all religions. We are most  fortunate to have him here at the center.

The Venerable Tulku Karma Gyurme Sonam Rinpoche is the founder and spiritual leader of the Yogi Tsoru Dechen Foundation based in  Miami, Florida. He is recognized as a Lama - a term reserved for senior members of the Tibetan Order.

Tulku Karma Rinpoche has devoted his life to champion humanitarian efforts. He travels throughout the world teaching the Buddha Dharma (Path of Awakening), and speaking on the greater good of empowering humanity and revitalizing society. Presently, Rinpoche is overseeing various charitable programs including the construction of a Monastery in Mainpat, India while continuing to help establish new Dharma centers in the United States.
