Ashram Rules and Guidelines

The spirit behind the discipline and rules are purely to enable you to obtain maximum benefit from your Ashram experience and spiritual practice.  To maintain the spiritual purpose of the Ashram, all guests are required to follow the daily Ashram schedule.

Punctuality – Classes and Satsangs Guests are required to be on time and to remain for the duration of each program.It is at the teacher’s discretion whether late-arriving students will be permitted into class.  If you are late please enter with minimum disturbance to others.  Please note that for morning and evening Satsang, the door will be locked at the start of meditation and reopened once chanting starts.

Karma Yoga (selfless service) Karma yoga is an integral part of the daily schedule and provides an opportunity for guests to participate in the upkeep of the ashram. Guests are encouraged to offer up to one hour of selfless service per day.

Silence (Mouna) Please observe silence between 10:30 pm and 7:30 am daily. Lights out after 10:30 pm.

Dress Code Guests’ behaviour and dress code should be respectful and enhance the spiritual atmosphere of the Ashram.   No nudity in the sauna. When entering all indoor areas please remove shoes and place them neatly on the shoe racks provided.

Personal Belongings The Ashram cannot accept responsibility for the guest’s personal belongings. A safety deposit facility is available.

Intoxicants & Prohibited Items: Smoking, alcohol, drugs, meat, fish, eggs, garlic or onions are not allowed. Pets are not allowed. Mobile/cell phones are not allowed. Photography, video, audio recording during classes and ceremonies is only permitted with the permission of the Ashram director. No incense, candles or burning materials allowed anywhere in the Ashram and grounds.

Check In/Out All guests and visitors are required to register at reception upon arrival. Check-in time is after 15:00 pm and check-out before 11:00 am.

Payments and Donations Daily donation rates include accommodation, classes and two meals per day. Dates and donations are subject to change without notice. For all programs guests are subject to the suggested donation in effect at the time of final payment.  Personal cheques and bank transfers are not accepted.

Medical/Yoga Practice Please respect your body’s limitations and if you are unsure about your ability to practise, please consult a medical doctor beforehand.

Summary Guests are reminded that Ashram staff are mostly volunteers with varying experience who offer service as part of their spiritual discipline. Your understanding and patience is appreciated. The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Camp is not responsible for any personal loss, injury and/or damages sustained as a result of your stay at the Ashram.
