One day, Swami Vishnu-devananda had a vision while meditating at the Yoga Retreat in Nassau. He 'saw" people running in terror from a giant ball of fire. Although he could not immediately understand this awesome vision, he knew from past experience that whatever he saw in the form of revelation would eventually materialise. For this reason he founded the T.W.O (True World Order), which aims at promoting world peace and understanding. He felt the need to train the future leaders and responsible citizens of the world in yogic disciplines. True brotherhood and peace can exist only when there are strong, self-controlled leaders and responsible citizens of the world in yogic disciplines. True brotherhood and peace can exist only when there are strong, self-controlled leaders who possess an inner awareness of peace. If there is no inner peace within the individuals of a society, there cannot be external peace. For this reason Swamiji began the Sivananda Yoga Teachers' Training Course (in 1969). Hopefully, each person who is trained will, in turn, teach it to others.
The other work of T.W.O included Swamiji's peace missions to the troubled spots of the world - Ireland, the Middle East, etc., This work continues. Conferences and sumposia are held yearly at Sivananda Ashrams around the world, drawing people's awareness to the need for peace, as well supplying practical and philosophical techniques for finding this peace. Swami Vishnu-devananda attained Mahasamadhi on November 9, 1993. His body was placed into the Ganga (Ganges River) at the Sivananda Kutir near Uttarkashi; this is known as Jala-samadhi.
